Back Home
After a bit of stress from getting a notification that our flight home was cancelled minutes after posting last night's blog, we made it back home. Unsure why, but American Airlines cancelled our flight and then rebooked us onto another flight at the exact same time our original one was. We also ended up with a row of three seats to ourselves which gave us a bit more leg room during the 8hr flight. While I am sad the trip is over, it is also good to be back in our own home wi

Cars & Trams & Trains - oh my!
Today started our travel back south towards London in preparation for our flight home tomorrow. We left our hotel early this morning so we could hit a few more sightseeing stops along the drive back to Edinburgh to make the day more fun. The first of those stops was the Fairy Pools where Mother Nature once again was scheming against us and started raining during our walk along a pretty river that formed several small pools and waterfalls. Due to having taken my camera with me

A Taste of Real UK Weather
Well sadly today was our last major sightseeing day. Tomorrow we start heading back to London for our flight on Sunday. But before getting too disappointment at the end of the trip approaching, we had a fun, though rainy, day out exploring the Isle of Skye. Heading out from town this morning, we stopped at a coffee shop that has a pasture of highland cows next to it. However they had not brought most of the heard down from their nighttime pasture yet, so there was only one ad

Into the Highlands
We started today off by picking up our rental car from the Edinburgh Airport, the first time we’ve been in a car in 8 days despite all our traveling so far. Joel drove today as we figured out the joys of driving in Scotland. While we started out on bigger motorways when leaving Edinburgh, figuring out how to do traffic circles in reverse, getting used to the fact that making right turns are the ones where you cross on-coming traffic, and other things you do automatically whil

Walking Through Edinburgh’s History
Well we finally saw a glimpse of the more typical Edinburgh weather today, this morning was a cool, breezy, and cloudy start to the day. However it quickly went back to being warm and sunny by the afternoon. Despite the cooler start, we started out with a 1.5 mile walk to Palace of Holyroodhouse, which is used as the official royal residence in Scotland and is located at the opposite end of the Royal Mile from Edinburgh Castle. Unfortunately, photos were not allowed within th

Our Day in Edinburgh’s Old Town
Another lovely, sunny day here in Edinburgh! We spent most of the day walking the Royal Mile which is the main road in “old town” that leads up to Edinburgh Castle. The road is line with many shops where we did some browsing and souvenir shopping. One common theme among the souvenirs here is highland cows, which are slightly smaller and very hairy. We hope to see some real ones later on in our trip as they are common around Isle of Skye, however for now some of the art and so

Welcome to Edinburgh!
We arrived at our second stop of our trip: Edinburgh, Scotland! First impressions as we got off the train was that it was very busy, tons of people everywhere. However, we realized today is a bank holiday here and the Edinburgh marathon was this past weekend, so people are likely taking an extended weekend here. Looking past the crowds of people, the city is very pretty and old looking. So many old stone buildings, with many of them leading up to Edinburgh Castle perched up o

Edinburgh Bound!
Got up bright and early this morning and made our way to Euston station to catch our train to Edinburgh. Had a quick transfer in Carlisle but are now on our final leg of the ride. The train has been super great and comfortable, much better then being packed into a short flight which was our other travel alternative. The view out the window has been beautiful as well.

Final Day in London
Our third and final full day in London is wrapping up with yet another 7 miles of steps and some mild sunburn from the London sun. 90 degrees and sunny really wasn’t the weather I was expecting, though the sun is certainly appreciated. I think we are both looking forward to going north to Edinburgh, Scotland tomorrow where the high temps are in the high 60’s-low 70’s - but still sunny! As far as our adventurers today, we started off the morning with a visit to the Tower of Lo

From Sky Garden to Hogwarts
After ending the last post talking about food, we ended up deciding to try an Indian Restaurant across the street, which was very delicious and we see why it was highly recommended to us by the hotel desk. Continuing the theme of food, we started today out with breakfast with a view at Sky Garden. The views were amazing and the food was good as well with us sharing a full English breakfast. We then walked over to St Paul’s Cathedral for another self guided audio tour. I feel

A Friday Novel
Back at our hotel to give our feet a break and sort through some photos. Not even 6pm yet and we’ve walked around 20k steps so far today. The fitness apps on our watches are very happy with how much we’re walking….our feet on the other hand, less thrilled! Was worth it for all the sights we have seen so far though. Both yesterday and today we have walked through a portion of Hyde Park and for being in the middle of such a big city, it is very relaxing and pretty to walk throu

Natural History Museum and Resting
As we continued our walk from our hotel, through Hyde Park, we stumbled upon the Albert Memorial. The size and detail of it caught our eye from a distance and had to walk over to see what it was. Once done with our detour, we finally got to our intended destination, the Natural History Museum. While we spent a few hours looking around, there was still plenty more to see. But we decided to grab a quick dinner and relax for the evening to hopefully catch up on some missing slee
